Description

French Onion Soup Rice is an easy baked comfort dish made with just five ingredients. It combines the deep, savory flavors of classic French onion soup with the creamy texture of baked rice, all topped with melted butter and fresh parsley. A one-pan, no-fuss recipe perfect for weeknights, gatherings, or cozy side dishes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1¼ cups long grain rice (uncooked)

  • 14.5 oz can beef broth

  • 10.5 oz can French onion soup

  • 1 stick (113 g) cold butter, sliced into thin pats

  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. Spread uncooked rice evenly in an 8×8-inch baking dish.

  3. Pour in beef broth and French onion soup over the rice.

  4. Layer the top with thin slices of cold butter.

  5. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 25 minutes.

  6. Remove foil and bake uncovered for another 25 minutes until golden and bubbling.

  7. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.

Notes

No need to rinse the rice—starch helps create creaminess.

Use thin butter slices for even melting and flavor.

To make it vegetarian, substitute with mushroom broth and vegetarian French onion soup.

Can be assembled ahead of time and baked before serving.

Optional: Top with shredded Gruyère before the final bake for a cheesy variation.
