Description

Zesty Orange Chicken features tender chicken pieces coated in a bright citrus glaze made with fresh orange juice, soy sauce, garlic, and honey. This quick dish delivers sweet and savory flavor and works perfectly for weeknight dinners or outdoor griddle cooking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • ¾ cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Cut chicken thighs into evenly sized bite-size pieces
  2. Place chicken in a bowl and toss with cornstarch until lightly coated
  3. Whisk together orange juice, orange zest, soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, rice vinegar, red pepper flakes, and brown sugar
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or flat top griddle over medium-high heat
  5. Add chicken in a single layer and cook until browned and fully cooked
  6. Stir occasionally while the chicken cooks
  7. Pour the prepared orange sauce over the chicken
  8. Stir continuously while the sauce bubbles and thickens
  9. Drizzle sesame oil over the chicken and mix well
  10. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds and serve hot

Notes

  1. Fresh orange juice gives the sauce the best flavor
  2. Avoid overcrowding the pan so the chicken browns properly
  3. Let the chicken cook fully before adding the sauce
  4. For thicker sauce mix a small cornstarch slurry and stir in near the end
