Description

Texas Firecrackers is a term that packs a punch, representing multiple facets of Texan culture. From a competitive youth softball team to a spicy snack, an ancient archaeological site, and even fireworks regulations, the term reflects the bold, vibrant spirit of Texas in various ways.

Ingredients

Scale

For Texas Firecracker Snack:

  • 1 box saltine crackers

  • 1 cup canola or vegetable oil

  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix

  • 2 tablespoons crushed red pepper flakes

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

  • Place the saltine crackers in a large zip-top bag.

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the oil, ranch seasoning mix, crushed red pepper flakes, and garlic powder.

  • Pour the mixture into the bag with the crackers.

  • Seal the bag and gently shake to coat the crackers evenly.

  • Let the bag sit for 12–24 hours, turning the bag a few times to ensure the crackers absorb the seasoning.

  • Open the bag, serve, and enjoy the crispy, spicy snack.

Notes

You can use oyster crackers instead of saltines for a smaller snack option.

For extra heat, add cayenne or chipotle powder.

Store the crackers in an airtight container for up to a week.
