Description

Southern Candied Yams made with brown sugar, butter, and warm spices create a classic Southern side dish perfect for holidays and family meals.


Ingredients

  • 4 large sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Combine sweet potatoes, brown sugar, butter, water, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla in a large pot.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Transfer everything to a baking dish.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes, basting occasionally.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.
