- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1/2 yellow onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 (15 oz) cans tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 8 oz egg noodles
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, grated
- Kosher salt to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cook ground beef and onion in a skillet over medium-high heat until browned, about 10 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Stir in tomato sauce and Italian seasoning and simmer for 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cook egg noodles according to package directions. Drain well.
- Mix sour cream and cottage cheese in a large bowl. Stir in cooked noodles and season lightly.
- Layer half of the noodle mixture in the baking dish. Top with half of the meat sauce. Repeat layers.
- Sprinkle cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
- Bake for 30 minutes until bubbly and cheese is melted.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Do not overcook the noodles before baking.
- Let the casserole rest before slicing for cleaner portions.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
