Description
Southern-style smothered chicken wings baked until tender and finished in a rich onion gravy.
Ingredients

- 2 pounds chicken wings
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup sliced white onion
- ½ cup chopped green bell pepper
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ cup chopped onion
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup heavy whipping cream
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Season chicken wings with spices.
- Add onions and peppers to baking dish.
- Place wings over vegetables and add broth.
- Cover with foil and bake 45 minutes.
- Remove wings and reserve drippings.
- Prepare gravy with butter, oil, onions, flour, cream, and drippings.
- Return wings to dish, cover with gravy, and bake uncovered until done.
Notes
- Browning wings first adds color but is optional.
- Split wings cook more evenly.
- Milk can replace cream with a thinner gravy.
