Description

Southern-style smothered chicken wings baked until tender and finished in a rich onion gravy.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds chicken wings
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup sliced white onion
  • ½ cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Season chicken wings with spices.
  3. Add onions and peppers to baking dish.
  4. Place wings over vegetables and add broth.
  5. Cover with foil and bake 45 minutes.
  6. Remove wings and reserve drippings.
  7. Prepare gravy with butter, oil, onions, flour, cream, and drippings.
  8. Return wings to dish, cover with gravy, and bake uncovered until done.

Notes

  1. Browning wings first adds color but is optional.
  2. Split wings cook more evenly.
  3. Milk can replace cream with a thinner gravy.
