Description
Tender Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken made with juicy chicken, honey, soy sauce, fresh garlic, and ginger. This easy family dinner needs only a few minutes of hands-on preparation.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3½ pounds chicken thighs, chicken breasts, or a combination
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil or olive oil
- ½ cup soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece fresh ginger, grated
Instructions
- Pat the chicken dry with paper towels, then lightly season all sides with salt and black pepper.
- Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Brown the chicken for 2 to 3 minutes per side, working in batches when necessary. Do not cook the chicken completely.
- Add the soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, and grated ginger to the slow cooker. Stir until the honey blends into the sauce.
- Place the browned chicken in the slow cooker and turn each piece to coat it with the sauce.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours or on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours, until the chicken reaches a safe internal temperature and becomes tender.
- Serve the chicken whole, sliced, or shredded, and spoon the honey garlic sauce over rice, noodles, or vegetables.
Notes
- Use low-sodium soy sauce for a less salty sauce.
- Use gluten-free soy sauce or coconut aminos to make the recipe gluten-free.
- Fresh garlic and ginger provide the strongest flavor.
- Chicken thighs stay especially juicy during slow cooking.
- For a thicker sauce, transfer the cooking liquid to a saucepan and simmer until reduced.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
