Description

A comforting and easy shepherd’s pie casserole with savory ground beef and creamy mashed potatoes baked until golden.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 cups mashed potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Cook ground beef in a skillet until browned and drain excess fat.
  3. Add onion and garlic and cook until softened.
  4. Stir in vegetables, tomato paste, broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  5. Simmer until slightly thickened.
  6. Transfer mixture to a casserole dish.
  7. Spread mashed potatoes evenly over the filling.
  8. Dot with butter and sprinkle with cheese if using.
  9. Bake until golden and bubbly.
  10. Let rest briefly before serving.

Notes

  1. Use homemade mashed potatoes for better texture.
  2. Ground lamb can replace beef.
  3. Leftovers reheat well.
