Description

Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes are a delicious fusion of two comfort food classics: the bold, beefy flavors of a Philly cheesesteak and the messy joy of a sloppy joe. Packed with sautéed veggies, melty cheese, and seasoned beef, this easy recipe is perfect for busy weeknights or game day feasts. Ready in under 30 minutes, it’s a family favorite that’s big on flavor and short on fuss.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) cornstarch

  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) low sodium beef broth

  • 2 teaspoons (10 ml) olive oil

  • 1 small sweet onion, diced

  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced

  • 4 ounces (115 g) mushrooms, chopped

  • 1 pound (450 g) lean ground beef

  • 2 tablespoons (30 g) ketchup

  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 teaspoons (6 g) taco seasoning

  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.5 g) salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.5 g) black pepper

  • 1 1/2 cups (170 g) shredded sharp white cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese

  • 6 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and beef broth. Set aside.

  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Cook for about 3 minutes until tender.

  3. Add ground beef. Break it up and cook for 3 minutes, until no longer pink. Drain excess fat.

  4. Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, taco seasoning, salt, and pepper.

  5. Pour in the cornstarch-beef broth mixture. Simmer for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.

  6. Stir cheese into the beef mixture, or sprinkle it on top of each sandwich and broil until melted.

  7. Serve hot on hamburger buns.

Notes

Substitute ground beef with ground turkey, chicken, or plant-based crumbles.

For a spicier kick, use fajita seasoning or add red pepper flakes.

Store leftover meat mixture separately from buns to avoid sogginess.

Reheat gently with a splash of broth if needed.

Great for meal prep—can be frozen for up to 2 months.
