Description

Mississippi Chicken is a tangy, buttery slow cooker classic made with just a handful of pantry ingredients—ranch seasoning, au jus mix, pepperoncini peppers, and butter. This effortless recipe transforms simple chicken breasts into a tender, flavorful dish that’s perfect for busy weeknights, family dinners, or meal prep. Serve it over mashed potatoes, rice, or in sandwich rolls for a comforting Southern-style meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large boneless skinless chicken breasts (about 900 g)

  • 12 pepperoncini peppers

  • 60 ml (1/4 cup) juice from the pepperoncini jar

  • 28 g (1 oz) ranch seasoning mix

  • 28 g (1 oz) au jus seasoning mix

  • 113 g (1/2 cup or 1 stick) unsalted butter, cut into pieces

Instructions

  • Place chicken breasts in your slow cooker in a single layer.

  • Pour pepperoncini juice over the chicken and scatter the peppers on top.

  • Sprinkle the ranch seasoning and au jus mix evenly over the chicken.

  • Top with butter pieces.

  • Cover and cook on low for 6–8 hours or high for 3–4 hours, until chicken is tender.

  • Shred the chicken using two forks directly in the slow cooker.

  • Mix everything until the chicken is evenly coated in sauce.

  • Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or on sandwich rolls.

Notes

Don’t skip the pepperoncini juice—it adds tangy depth.

For a richer taste, sear chicken before slow cooking.

Mix white and dark meat for extra juiciness.

Stir in cream cheese before serving for a creamy variation.

Refrigerate leftovers up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
