Description

A comforting, cheesy casserole featuring juicy meatballs, tender pasta, and rich tomato sauce. This easy-to-make dish is perfect for weeknight dinners, potlucks, or make-ahead meals. It’s hearty, satisfying, and sure to become a family favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) meatballs (homemade or store-bought)

  • 1 lb (450g) penne, ziti, or rotini pasta

  • 3 cups marinara sauce

  • 1 to cups water or broth

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • Optional: 1 cup ricotta cheese (for creaminess)

  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and grease a large 9×13-inch baking dish.

  • Mix uncooked pasta with marinara sauce and 1 to 1½ cups of water or broth in a bowl. Add salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.

  • Place the meatballs into the pasta mixture.

  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 35-45 minutes. Check for tenderness after 35 minutes.

  • Remove the foil and add mozzarella and Parmesan on top. Bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes.

  • Let the casserole rest for 10-15 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley.

Notes

For a richer flavor, mix ricotta into the pasta before baking.

You can use ground beef, chicken, turkey, or plant-based meatballs.

Make it lighter by using whole wheat or gluten-free pasta.
