Ingredients

1 lb (450g) meatballs (homemade or store-bought)

1 lb (450g) penne, ziti, or rotini pasta

3 cups marinara sauce

1 to 1½ cups water or broth

1 tsp Italian seasoning

½ tsp garlic powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Optional: 1 cup ricotta cheese (for creaminess)

Fresh basil or parsley for garnish
Instructions

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and grease a large 9×13-inch baking dish.

Mix uncooked pasta with marinara sauce and 1 to 1½ cups of water or broth in a bowl. Add salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.

Place the meatballs into the pasta mixture.

Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 35-45 minutes. Check for tenderness after 35 minutes.

Remove the foil and add mozzarella and Parmesan on top. Bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes.

Let the casserole rest for 10-15 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley.
Notes
For a richer flavor, mix ricotta into the pasta before baking.
You can use ground beef, chicken, turkey, or plant-based meatballs.
Make it lighter by using whole wheat or gluten-free pasta.
