Description

Moist on the inside, slightly crusty on the top, this make ahead French toast casserole is topped with loads of fresh berries. Serve with powdered sugar and maple syrup.


Ingredients

1214 cups French bread

8 large eggs

2 cups 2% milk

2 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp cinnamon

2/3 cup brown sugar

1 cup sliced strawberries

1/2 cup blueberries

12 tbsp powdered sugar

Maple syrup, as desired


Instructions

1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or oil.

2. Cut French bread into cubes and fill 3/4 of the dish.

3. Whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and brown sugar until smooth.

4. Pour over the bread cubes evenly.

5. Top with strawberries and blueberries.

6. Cover with plastic wrap; refrigerate 4 hours or overnight.

7. Preheat oven to 350°F.

8. Bake 35–50 minutes until golden brown.

9. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

10. Serve warm with maple syrup.

Notes

Best served fresh out of the oven.

Can be made ahead and stored overnight.

Swap berries for apples or nuts for seasonal variations.
