Description
Crispy breaded chicken patties, warm marinara, melted provolone, garlic-buttered Italian bread, and Parmesan come together in a fast, hearty grilled cheese sandwich.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 frozen breaded chicken patties
- 2 tablespoons garlic butter, softened
- 4 slices Italian bread
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 pinch garlic salt
- 6 thin slices provolone cheese
- 2 tablespoons shredded Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and place the frozen chicken patties on a baking sheet.
- Bake the chicken patties for about 20 minutes, or according to the package directions, until hot and crisp.
- Let the patties rest for 2 minutes, then cut each patty in half lengthwise.
- Spread garlic butter over one side of each bread slice.
- Combine the marinara sauce, dried basil, and garlic salt in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Microwave the sauce for 30 seconds to 1 minute, then stir.
- Place one bread slice in a skillet with the buttered side facing down.
- Top the bread with 2 provolone slices, 1 tablespoon marinara, 2 chicken patty halves, 2 tablespoons marinara, and 1 additional provolone slice.
- Close the sandwich with another bread slice, keeping the buttered side facing up.
- Cook over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the bottom turns golden and crisp.
- Flip carefully and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes, or until the second side browns and the cheese melts.
- Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
- Stir the shredded Parmesan into the remaining warm marinara.
- Cut each sandwich in half and serve immediately with the Parmesan marinara for dipping.
Notes
- Use medium heat so the bread browns without burning before the cheese melts.
- Keep most of the marinara on the side to prevent soggy bread.
- Use thin provolone slices for faster, more even melting.
- Reheat leftovers in a skillet or air fryer rather than a microwave.
- Store leftover marinara separately from the sandwiches.
