Description

The Korean Ground Beef Bowl is a quick and satisfying dish perfect for weeknights. It combines savory ground beef with a sweet and spicy sauce, served over fluffy rice and topped with garnishes like green onions and sesame seeds. The dish is easy to customize with toppings such as fried eggs or kimchi, making it a versatile and flavorful meal for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef (90% lean or higher)

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated

  • 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil

  • 2 cups rice (white or jasmine, or cauliflower rice for low-carb option)

  • Green onions, chopped (for garnish)

  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Optional Add-ins:

  • 1 fried egg (for topping)

  • Kimchi (for serving)

  • 1 tablespoon gochujang (Korean chili paste)

  • Fresh vegetables (carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers, etc.)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Beef Mixture:

    • Heat sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

    • Add minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

    • Add ground beef and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.

    • Stir in soy sauce, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 3-4 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.

  • Cook the Rice:

    • Cook rice according to package instructions. For cauliflower rice, sauté in oil for 5-7 minutes until tender.

  • Assemble the Bowl:

    • Spoon rice into bowls.

    • Top with the beef mixture.

    • Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.

    • Optional: Add a fried egg and a side of kimchi.

Notes

Adjust the heat level by varying the amount of red pepper flakes or adding gochujang.

For a leaner version, use ground chicken or turkey instead of beef.

Cauliflower rice can be used as a low-carb alternative.
