- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 large yellow onion, diced
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
- 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 8 oz small pasta shells
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Brown ground beef in a large sauté pan over medium-high heat. Remove beef and reserve 2 tablespoons grease.
- Cook onion in reserved grease until soft, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
- Stir in flour and cook 1 minute. Slowly whisk in broth and bring to a boil.
- Add tomato sauce, seasonings, and pasta. Stir, cover, and simmer 12 to 15 minutes until pasta is tender.
- Stir in heavy cream and cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
- Return ground beef to skillet and cook 2 to 3 minutes until heated through. Rest briefly before serving.
Notes
- Best served fresh as pasta absorbs liquid during storage.
- Store leftovers in refrigerator up to 4 days.
- Reheat with a splash of broth or cream to restore creaminess.
- For gluten free version use gluten free pasta and thicken with cornstarch slurry.
