Description

This Homemade BBQ Sauce is a Kansas City-style sweet and tangy sauce with a smoky flavor, perfect for grilling and dipping.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 1/4 cups brown sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 4 teaspoons liquid smoke
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan
  2. Bring to a simmer over medium heat
  3. Reduce heat and cook for 20 minutes
  4. Stir occasionally while cooking
  5. Adjust thickness with water if needed
  6. Cool slightly before serving

Notes

  1. Do not cook on high heat
  2. Stir frequently to prevent burning
  3. Store in airtight container for up to one week
