Description

A healthier smash cake recipe made with banana, applesauce, whole wheat flour, and maple syrup. Perfect for a first birthday celebration.


Ingredients

  • Butter and whole wheat flour for pans
  • 1 cup white whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 medium ripe banana
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and prepare pans.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Blend banana, applesauce, milk, and maple syrup until smooth.
  4. Whisk in egg and vanilla.
  5. Combine wet and dry ingredients gently.
  6. Divide batter between pans.
  7. Bake 20 to 23 minutes.
  8. Cool cakes completely.
  9. Whip cream until fluffy.
  10. Frost cake and serve.
