Description

Grilled avocados are a quick and flavorful summer side dish that adds a smoky, creamy twist to any barbecue. With just a few ingredients and 10 minutes on the grill, you get a healthy, crowd-pleasing treat that’s naturally vegan and gluten-free.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup olive oil

  • 1 pinch ground chipotle pepper (or more to taste)

  • 1 pinch chili powder (or more to taste)

  • 4 ripe avocados, halved and pitted

Instructions

  • Preheat grill to medium heat (350°F). Oil the grill grates lightly.

  • In a small bowl, mix olive oil, chipotle pepper, and chili powder.

  • Brush the cut side of each avocado with the spiced oil.

  • Place avocados cut-side down on the grill and cook for about 5 minutes, until grill marks appear and the flesh softens.

  • Serve warm—either in the skin or scooped out and mashed.

Notes

Choose just-ripe avocados for best grilling results.

Add lime juice and sea salt after grilling for a bright finish.

Use leftovers for smoky guacamole or spreads.

Complements grilled meats, tacos, and salads.
