Description

Garlic Butter Steak Bites and Mash is a hearty, quick comfort food recipe that delivers restaurant-level flavour without the fuss. Juicy, garlicky steak bites are seared to perfection and tossed in herb butter, then served over creamy mashed potatoes for a cosy, satisfying dinner that’s perfect for busy weeknights or casual entertaining.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Steak Bites:

  • 1 lb (450 g) sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized pieces

  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) vegetable oil

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced (12 g)

  • 3 tbsp (45 g) unsalted butter

  • 1 tsp (1 g) dried thyme

  • 1 tsp (1 g) dried rosemary

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Mash:

  • 2 lbs (900 g) potatoes, peeled and cubed

  • ½ cup (120 mL) milk

  • 4 tbsp (60 g) unsalted butter

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Make the Mash

    • Place potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold water, add a pinch of salt, and bring to a boil.

    • Reduce heat, simmer for 15 minutes or until fork-tender. Drain.

    • Return potatoes to the pot, add milk and butter, mash until creamy. Season with salt and pepper.

  2. Cook the Steak Bites

    • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high.

    • Add steak in batches, searing 2–3 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.

    • Lower heat to medium, sauté garlic for 1 minute. Stir in butter, thyme, and rosemary.

    • Return steak to skillet, toss in garlic butter for 1 minute. Season to taste.

  3. Serve

    • Spoon mashed potatoes onto plates, top with steak bites, and drizzle with garlic butter sauce. Serve hot.

Notes

Pat steak dry before searing for a better crust.

Don’t overcrowd the pan—work in batches.

Warm milk before adding to potatoes for extra creaminess.

Garnish with parsley or chives for color.

Mashed potatoes freeze well; steak is best fresh.
