Description
Cheesy French Onion Meatballs combine juicy beef with caramelized onions and melted Gruyère cheese in a rich, savory sauce.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp Italian seasoning
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp olive oil
2 large onions, thinly sliced
2 tbsp butter
1 tsp sugar
2 cups beef broth
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp flour
1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
Fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
1. Combine beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, egg, garlic, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
2. Form into 1-inch meatballs.
3. Brown meatballs in olive oil for 6–8 minutes and set aside.
4. Melt butter, add onions, sprinkle sugar, and cook until caramelized.
5. Add flour, broth, and Worcestershire; stir to make sauce.
6. Return meatballs to pan and simmer for 10–15 minutes.
7. Top with cheese and broil until bubbly.
8. Garnish with parsley and serve.
Notes
Serve over mashed potatoes, pasta, or toasted bread. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
