Description

This easy French toast casserole is a delightful breakfast dish that combines the classic flavors of French toast into a convenient, shareable bake. Perfect for brunches or busy mornings!

Ingredients

Scale

1 loaf bread (about 12 slices, preferably day-old or stale)

8 large eggs

2 cups milk

1 cup heavy cream

½ cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon salt

½ cup maple syrup (optional for serving)

Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. Grease the 9×13 inch baking dish lightly with butter or cooking spray.

3. Cut the bread into cubes (about 1-inch in size) and place them evenly in the prepared baking dish.

4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

5. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are soaked. Press down gently to submerge the bread.

6. Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, preferably overnight.

7. Once ready to bake, remove the plastic wrap and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

8. Let the casserole cool for about 5-10 minutes before slicing it into squares and serving.

9. Drizzle with maple syrup and dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Use day-old bread for the best texture.

Overnight soaking enhances flavor.

Serve warm with maple syrup and fresh fruit.
