Description

Quick and easy homemade cherry sauce made with sweet cherries and simple ingredients. Perfect for cheesecake, pancakes, waffles, and ice cream.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups sweet cherries, pitted
  • 1/3 cup water for fresh cherries or 1/4 cup for frozen cherries
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

Instructions

  1. Wash and pit the cherries if using fresh cherries.
  2. Whisk together water, cornstarch, lemon juice, and sugar in a saucepan.
  3. Place over medium heat and whisk until slightly thickened.
  4. Add cherries and cook until the sauce bubbles evenly and thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.
  6. Transfer to a mason jar or airtight container and refrigerate.

Notes

  1. Use frozen cherries when fresh cherries are not in season.
  2. The sauce thickens more after cooling.
  3. Store refrigerated for up to one week.
