Description

A hearty one-pan pasta skillet made with smoky kielbasa, tender broccoli, and penne tossed in a creamy cheddar sauce. Quick, budget-friendly, and ready in just 30 minutes, this dish delivers comfort food flavor with minimal cleanup—perfect for busy nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz penne pasta

  • 2 cups broccoli florets, quartered

  • 13.9 oz kielbasa sausage ring, sliced

  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mild cheddar cheese

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

  • 1 small yellow onion, diced

  • 1 tsp minced garlic

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Optional: 1 tbsp cornstarch (for thickening)

  • Optional: fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook penne according to package directions. Add broccoli in the last 2 minutes. Drain and set aside.

  • In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add kielbasa slices and cook 5 minutes until browned.

  • Stir in diced onion and garlic. Cook 2–3 minutes until onion softens.

  • Whisk milk with cornstarch (if using) until smooth. Slowly pour into skillet, stirring.

  • Simmer 3–5 minutes until slightly thickened.

  • Reduce heat and stir in shredded cheddar gradually until melted and creamy.

  • Add pasta and broccoli back to skillet. Toss until evenly coated.

  • Season with salt and pepper, garnish with parsley, and serve warm.

Notes

Add broccoli near the end of cooking to keep it bright and tender.

Try smoked gouda or sharp cheddar for a richer flavor.

Add paprika or chili flakes for heat.

Any pasta shape works—rotini, shells, or fusilli are great alternatives.
