Description
Classic Greek Salad, or Horiatiki, is a fresh and colorful dish made with simple Mediterranean ingredients. Featuring ripe tomatoes, crisp cucumbers, red onions, Kalamata olives, and creamy feta cheese, it’s finished with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and a sprinkle of oregano. This salad is perfect as a side or a light main course and is loved for its bright flavors and rustic charm.
Ingredients
-
4 ripe tomatoes, cut into chunks
-
1 cucumber, sliced into thick half-moons
-
½ red onion, thinly sliced
-
1 green bell pepper, sliced into strips (optional)
-
½ cup Kalamata olives
-
1 block (about 6 oz) feta cheese
-
3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
-
1 tsp dried oregano
-
Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
-
Wash and prepare all vegetables.
-
Cut tomatoes into large chunks. Slice cucumber into half-moons. Thinly slice red onion and green pepper.
-
In a large bowl, add tomatoes, cucumber, onion, bell pepper, and olives.
-
Drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle oregano, salt, and pepper. Toss gently.
-
Place the block of feta cheese on top.
-
Serve immediately or chill briefly before serving.
Notes
For traditional style, use a whole block of feta rather than crumbled.
Don’t add lettuce—classic Greek salad doesn’t use it.
You can prepare vegetables ahead but assemble just before serving.
Optional: Add a splash of red wine vinegar for more tang.
