Description

Classic Greek Salad, or Horiatiki, is a fresh and colorful dish made with simple Mediterranean ingredients. Featuring ripe tomatoes, crisp cucumbers, red onions, Kalamata olives, and creamy feta cheese, it’s finished with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and a sprinkle of oregano. This salad is perfect as a side or a light main course and is loved for its bright flavors and rustic charm.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ripe tomatoes, cut into chunks

  • 1 cucumber, sliced into thick half-moons

  • ½ red onion, thinly sliced

  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced into strips (optional)

  • ½ cup Kalamata olives

  • 1 block (about 6 oz) feta cheese

  • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

  • 1 tsp dried oregano

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash and prepare all vegetables.

  2. Cut tomatoes into large chunks. Slice cucumber into half-moons. Thinly slice red onion and green pepper.

  3. In a large bowl, add tomatoes, cucumber, onion, bell pepper, and olives.

  4. Drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle oregano, salt, and pepper. Toss gently.

  5. Place the block of feta cheese on top.

  6. Serve immediately or chill briefly before serving.

Notes

For traditional style, use a whole block of feta rather than crumbled.

Don’t add lettuce—classic Greek salad doesn’t use it.

You can prepare vegetables ahead but assemble just before serving.

Optional: Add a splash of red wine vinegar for more tang.
