- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 jar (10 ounce) maraschino cherries
- 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Beat sugar and butter until fluffy.
- Add egg and vanilla extract and mix well.
- Stir in flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking soda, and baking powder until dough forms.
- Drain cherries and reserve some juice.
- Roll dough into walnut-sized balls and place on baking sheets.
- Press thumbprints into the center of each cookie.
- Place one cherry in each indentation.
- Heat chocolate chips and condensed milk over low heat until smooth.
- Stir in 4 teaspoons cherry juice.
- Spoon chocolate mixture over cherries.
- Bake for 10 minutes.
- Cool briefly on baking sheets before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
- Do not overbake the cookies for the best fudgy texture.
- Drain cherries well to prevent excess moisture in the dough.
