Description

Classic Chicken Parmesan with crispy breaded chicken, rich marinara sauce, and melted mozzarella cheese baked until bubbly and tender.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large chicken breasts (about 1 1/2 lbs)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, shredded or grated
  • 2 Tbsp light olive oil
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Trim and slice chicken breasts lengthwise into even cutlets and pound to 1/3-inch thickness, then season with salt and pepper
  2. Prepare a dredging station with seasoned flour, beaten eggs, and a mixture of bread crumbs and parmesan cheese
  3. Coat each chicken cutlet in flour, dip in eggs, then press into breadcrumb mixture and let rest for 5 minutes
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and pan-fry chicken until golden on both sides
  5. Spread marinara sauce in a baking dish, arrange chicken on top, add remaining sauce and mozzarella
  6. Bake at 425°F until cheese melts and chicken reaches 165°F internal temperature

Notes

  1. For crispier chicken, use less sauce under the chicken or omit it entirely. Panko or gluten-free bread crumbs may be substituted if needed.
