Description
Bake up a skillet of old-fashioned peach cobbler with crisp edges, gooey fruit, and buttery cobbler goodness.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup butter
- 16 ounces canned peaches, drained
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup milk
Instructions
- Place the butter in a 12-inch cast iron skillet and set it in the oven.
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit while the butter melts.
- In a small mixing bowl, combine the sugar, flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and milk until smooth.
- Once the butter has melted, carefully remove the skillet from the oven.
- Pour the batter evenly around the skillet over the melted butter. Do not stir.
- Add the drained peaches evenly across the top of the batter. Do not stir.
- Bake for 1 hour, or until the cobbler is golden brown and bubbly around the edges.
- Cool slightly, then serve warm.
Notes
- Use a 12-inch cast iron skillet for the best texture and even baking.
- Drain the canned peaches well so the cobbler stays gooey instead of watery.
- Do not stir after adding the batter or peaches because the layers create the classic cobbler texture.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
