Description

A hearty Cajun Dirty Rice made with shrimp, smoked sausage, vegetables, and seasoned rice cooked in one pan.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups long-grain white rice
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 8 ounces smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 2 stalks celery, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Rinse rice under cold water until clear and drain well
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet and brown the sausage for 5 minutes
  3. Add onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic and cook until softened
  4. Stir in shrimp, Cajun seasoning, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce and cook until shrimp turn pink
  5. Add rice and chicken broth and bring to a boil
  6. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer until rice is tender
  7. Let rest briefly, fluff, and garnish before serving

Notes

  1. Add diced jalapeños for more heat
  2. Substitute chicken or tofu for shrimp if desired
