Description
Big Mac Sloppy Joes combine seasoned ground beef, tangy pickles, American cheese, shredded lettuce, sesame buns, and creamy homemade burger sauce in an easy 30-minute skillet dinner.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef, preferably 85/15
- 1/2 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup hamburger pickles, chopped
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup French dressing
- 2 tablespoons sweet relish
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 8 sesame hamburger buns
- 2 cups iceberg lettuce, finely shredded
- 12 hamburger pickle chips
- 4 slices American cheese
- Extra sauce for serving, as needed
Instructions
- Finely chop the onion and hamburger pickles. Shred and dry the iceberg lettuce, split the buns, and separate the cheese slices.
- Stir the mayonnaise, French dressing, sweet relish, ketchup, white vinegar, onion powder, and salt together in a medium bowl until smooth.
- Reserve 1 cup of the prepared sauce for the skillet and keep the remaining sauce for assembling the sandwiches.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, break it into small crumbles, and cook for 3 to 4 minutes.
- Add the onion, kosher salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook for another 3 to 4 minutes until the beef has browned and the onion has softened.
- Drain excessive grease when necessary, leaving a light coating in the skillet for flavor.
- Stir in the chopped pickles and 1 cup of prepared sauce. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, until heated through.
- Spread sauce on each bottom bun, then add lettuce, American cheese, and the beef mixture.
- Add another bun bottom for a double-decker sandwich, followed by more sauce, lettuce, pickle chips, beef, and the top bun.
- Serve immediately with extra sauce on the side.
Notes
- Toast the cut sides of the sesame buns for 1 to 2 minutes for extra structure.
- Keep the lettuce, sauce, buns, and cooked filling separate until serving.
- For single-layer sandwiches, use 4 buns instead of 8.
- Refrigerate leftover beef for up to 3 days and leftover sauce for up to 5 days.
- Freeze the cooked beef mixture for up to 2 months without the buns or toppings.
