Description

Beef and broccoli cooked on a hot griddle with a savory Chinese takeout style sauce. Tender beef strips and crisp broccoli cook quickly together for an easy weeknight griddle meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef (flank steak, sirloin, or ribeye), sliced thin against the grain
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 5 cups broccoli florets
  • 23 tablespoons cooking oil
  • Fresh cracked black pepper
  • Sliced green onions
  • Sesame seeds
  • ½ cup beef stock
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Pat sliced beef dry and place in a bowl
  2. Sprinkle baking soda over beef and massage to coat evenly
  3. Cover and refrigerate for 20 minutes
  4. Rinse beef under cold water and pat dry
  5. Whisk together beef stock, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes
  6. Preheat griddle to 375–400°F
  7. Add cooking oil to the griddle surface
  8. Spread beef in a thin layer and cook 60–90 seconds
  9. Season with black pepper and sauté briefly
  10. Move beef to cooler side of griddle
  11. Cook broccoli on hotter zone for 2–3 minutes
  12. Pour half the sauce over broccoli and sauté
  13. Add beef back with broccoli
  14. Pour remaining sauce and cook 1–2 minutes until thickened
  15. Garnish with sesame seeds or green onions and serve

Notes

  1. Prepare all ingredients before cooking since stir fry cooks very quickly
  2. Adjust sweetness or spice by adding more brown sugar or red pepper flakes
  3. Serve with white rice, fried rice, or cauliflower rice
